Getting delivery records off paper slips and into the office same-day
A delivery company reconciled paper slips every evening. We built an offline-capable driver app that records proof of delivery at the door.
The situation
Where the business started.
Drivers carried printed manifests and collected signatures on paper. Every evening someone at the office re-entered the day’s deliveries into a spreadsheet. Slips went missing, handwriting was disputed, and customers asking where an order was got an answer based on the previous evening’s data at best.
What we built
- An Android app for drivers, built for low-end devices and designed to work with no signal.
- Proof of delivery captured at the door: recipient name, timestamp and a photo.
- Automatic sync when a connection returns, rather than a manual upload step.
- An office view showing the day’s deliveries as they are completed.
- Job assignment pushed to drivers instead of printed each morning.
The app had to work with no signal, or it was worse than the paper it replaced.
What changed
- Evening re-entry of delivery data was eliminated as a task.
- Delivery disputes are settled with a timestamp and a photo rather than a recollection.
- The office can answer “where is my order” while the day is still running.
- Drivers kept working normally through connection blackspots.
